Installation Instructions

  1. Download the Tool

    • Visit Rockwell Automation's Product Compatibility and Download Center (PCDC).

    • Search for "FactoryTalk Remote Access Local Connection Tool".

    • Download the latest version available.

  2. Choose Installation Type

    • When prompted, choose to install either:

      • Remote Access Runtime (background service)

      • Remote Access Tools (UI tools for initiating sessions)

  3. Run the Installer

    • Execute the downloaded file and follow the setup instructions.

    • Ensure proper permissions and firewall rules are in place for the application.

Device Configuration

Before initiating remote sessions:

  • Enable remote access on the target device:

    • This can be done via the web interface or the startup screen of the equipment.

Connecting to a Device

  1. Launch the Tool

  2. Enter Target Address

    • Provide the device’s IP address.

  3. Authenticate

    • Enter the assigned password.

  4. Initiate Remote Session

    • A VNC-style remote desktop session will begin.

Management Tabs Overview

Tab Name Description
Process Explorer View and manage running processes on the target device.
Connection Status Monitor the health and state of the remote connection.
Device Information Access system specs: OS version, memory, storage, device name, and firmware.
Log Files Review logs for troubleshooting and session history.
Restart Remotely reboot the connected device.
Explorer Transfer files, organize directories, and initiate firmware updates easily.

Firmware Updates

  • Navigate to the Explorer tab to:

    • Upload new firmware files.

    • Launch update processes for Optix Panels and Stratix 4300 switches.

  • Use the Device Information tab to confirm firmware version and system specs after the update.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Ensure the correct IP address and password are used.

  • Verify remote access is enabled on the device.

  • Use the Log Files tab for detailed error information.

  • Check network/firewall settings if a connection fails to initiate.
