Why does the PowerFlex 525 HIM lose the speed reference when I power off the drive?

By default, the PowerFlex 525 HIM resets the speed reference to 0.0 Hz after a power cycle of the drive. This article explains why this occurs and how to retain the last speed reference by properly configuring the HIM Ref Preset parameter.

Parameter 11 (HIM Ref Preset) of the port associated with the PowerFlex 525 HIM is set to an internal value of 0 or "Zero Start" by default.

The table below lays out the available values, enumerations, and descriptions for the HIM Reference Preset parameter.

By changing HIM Ref Preset to a value of 2, the HIM will now store the speed reference in the Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory or EEPROM, each time the speed reference is changed.  This allows the HIM to restore the last saved speed reference when the drive powers up, eliminating the need for the operator to manually re-enter the speed after each power cycle.
