Put Commissioning and Troubleshooting in Your Pocket with DeviceTools™
Industrial automation continues to get smarter, but configuring and troubleshooting devices can still mean pulling out a laptop, navigating software, or searching through technical documentation.
Rockwell Automation's DeviceTools™ Mobile App is designed to simplify those everyday plant-floor tasks by giving technicians a mobile-first way to commission, configure, and troubleshoot supported Allen-Bradley® devices directly from their smartphone.
The goal is simple: save time, set up faster, and reduce downtime.
Start with a Tap
One of the standout features of DeviceTools is NFC connectivity.
For supported PointMax™ I/O, technicians can simply tap their smartphone to the device to connect—even when the module is powered off.
That opens the door to faster commissioning and easier access to important device information without requiring a laptop for every task.
Once connected, technicians can access information such as:
- Product identity
- Catalog and serial number
- Device status
- Installed modules
- Network configuration
Configure IP Addresses Before You Even Power Up
Setting IP addresses across multiple devices can quickly become a repetitive part of commissioning.
DeviceTools helps streamline the process by allowing technicians to assign or verify IP addresses via NFC, even when the supported devices are still unpowered or in the box.
The app also offers an auto-increment IP address configuration feature, making it faster and more consistent to configure multiple modules during deployment.
For OEMs, system integrators, and plant technicians commissioning multiple devices, that can mean less time spent on repetitive setup.
Get Help When Something Goes Wrong
DeviceTools isn't just for commissioning. It's also designed to become a troubleshooting companion on the plant floor.
The app includes an AI-powered assistant trained specifically on Allen-Bradley devices. Instead of searching multiple resources when a fault or alarm occurs, technicians can access fault-code explanations, technical documentation, knowledge base information, and troubleshooting guidance directly in the app.
This guided experience can help users of varying skill levels approach troubleshooting with more confidence while helping experienced engineers spend less time answering routine questions.
Register Products from Your Phone
DeviceTools also simplifies product registration.
Users can verify and register eligible Allen-Bradley products directly through the app. Eligible products can receive an additional one-year warranty upon registration, subject to Rockwell Automation's applicable terms and product requirements.
It's another everyday task that can be completed without moving between multiple tools or systems.
Built for Work on the Plant Floor
The value of DeviceTools lies in bringing these capabilities together into a single mobile experience.
With DeviceTools, users can:
Connect. Tap supported devices with NFC.
Configure. Set network information and IP addresses.
Identify. Quickly access device details and status.
Troubleshoot. Get AI-assisted guidance for faults and alarms.
Register. Verify eligible products and access warranty benefits.
Core features such as NFC-based IP setup and device details can even function without an internet connection, while cloud-based capabilities require connectivity.
Getting Started with DeviceTools™
DeviceTools currently supports PointMax™ I/O modules with NFC; firmware version 2.011 or later is required. Rockwell Automation's materials also indicate plans to expand support to additional Allen-Bradley devices in future releases.
The app is free to download and available for iPhone and Android smartphones. A myRockwell account is required for features such as product registration and AI assistance.
Whether you're commissioning new equipment or troubleshooting an issue on the plant floor, DeviceTools puts useful Allen-Bradley device capabilities right in your pocket.
